Why this book?

Where it began

When I became a father, something happened that I did not expect.

For more than thirty-five years I had looked at diving through the eyes of an athlete, instructor, trainer and traveller. During that time I trained hundreds of people, visited dozens of countries and saw how the sea can change adults.

But one day I caught myself thinking a very simple thought.

What if I looked at all of this through the eyes of a parent?

Not as someone who teaches.

But as someone who one day has to take his own child by the hand and help them find their path.

That question is where this book began.

The world has changed

Children today have far more opportunities than my generation had.

But at the same time, they have less of something that no technology can replace.

Real adventure.

Real responsibility.

Real experience.

The kind of experience that cannot be paused, accelerated or restarted after a mistake.

I do not believe modern technology is the problem.

But I do believe that every child needs a world that exists beyond the screen.

A world where things happen for real.

Why the sea?

I am often asked this question.

The answer is simple.

I do not believe the sea is magical.

And I do not believe that only diving can help a child grow into a strong person.

Every child may have their own path.

For some, it may be music.

For others, sport.

For others, science.

For me, that path became the sea.

Because water never rushes.

It does not lie.

It does not make exceptions.

It teaches you to think calmly, respect the world around you, take responsibility for your decisions and trust the people beside you.

Perhaps that is why the sea became more than a place where I worked.

It became an environment where you can clearly see how a person gradually grows up.

Why diving?

Because diving has never been the goal for me.

It has always been a tool.

Over the years I have understood one simple thing.

The most important part does not remain underwater.

The most important part is what a person takes with them afterwards.

Calmness.

Responsibility.

Confidence.

The ability to work as part of a team.

The habit of thinking before acting.

That is why this book does not try to turn every child into a diver.

It invites you to see diving as one possible path of growing up.

Not the only one.

But a beautiful one.

Why a book?

People often ask me:

“Why not video?”

“Why not an online course?”

Because a book can do something that modern media almost never does.

It does not rush.

It does not demand an instant reaction.

It leaves space for thought.

I did not want to write a textbook or an instruction manual.

I wanted to start a conversation.

A conversation between parents and children.

A conversation about the kind of person we hope our child will become in ten or twenty years.

Why the book is only the beginning?

When the manuscript was finished, I understood something important.

The last page of the book should not be the end of the story.

That is where the real journey begins.

That is why, over time, the book will be surrounded by materials that help this conversation continue.

New resources.

Stories.

Practical recommendations.

The experience of other families and instructors.

Not because the book is incomplete.

But because life is always bigger than any book.

Who is this project for?

For parents.

For children.

For instructors.

For dive centres.

For everyone who understands that character is not formed in one day.

And not in one course.

It is formed over years of shared experience.

My vision

I do not dream of selling a million books.

Nor is my goal to create the world's largest children's diving programme.

I have a much simpler dream.

That one day an adult person might say:

“Every Sunday, we were in the water…”

And behind those words there would be more than the sea and diving.

There would be parents who found time to be present.

Adventures that could never be forgotten.

And a childhood that became the beginning of a real adult life.

If this book helps even a few families walk that path together, then it was worth writing.
